Blymyer Engineers pioneers DSA pre-check designs for solar canopies at California schools

In 2008, Blymyer Engineers worked hand-in-hand with structural engineers from the Division of the State Architect (DSA) to create the first pre-check design for solar canopies at California public schools.

Currently we’re in our fifth generation of approved pre-check solar canopies.

IR 16-8 / Solar Photovoltaic and Thermal Systems Review and Approval Requirements, was developed by the Division of State Architects specifically for photovoltaic and thermal system design as a regulatory document to assist in all future pre-check approvals.

The pre-check has not only made solar canopies feasible at K–12 schools and community colleges, but it has also led to further innovation in distributed solar.

We’re proud of the role we’ve played in bringing renewable energy to California’s education system — one of its most vital institutions.
