Plant and Facility Layout

  • Oakland, California
Blymyer Engineers, Inc. was retained by a large flour mill operation to survey the condition of drainage and of their existing railroad track system. Based on this survey, Blymyer Engineers, Inc. developed a new site plan and provided detailed recommendations for track repairs and drainage improvement. As part of the design, Blymyer Engineers, Inc. diagnosed and provided a solution for the client's frequent derailing problem in several areas of the facility. Construction surveillance was also provided, throughout the project.

Engineering Design for Flour Division

  • Vallejo, California
Blymyer Engineers, Inc. has completed numerous projects for General Mills, Inc. since the mid-1960's. These projects have included a bulk four blending project, a bulk mill run facility including air conveying storage and truck load-out, grain truck and rail loading and unloading facilities, and packaging conveyor systems for bulk and small packaging. In addition to design engineering and project and construction management services, Blymyer Engineers, Inc. acted as General Mills' representative at various state, county, and city regulating agencies. Our most recent project for General Mills included the conceptual design, permitting, and limited project management for a new bulk storage and load-out facility. The slip form concrete structure is capable of storing up to 800 tons of flour. The flour is then pneumatically conveyed from a separate mill building and is selectively fed from storage to a single lane truck load-out within the building or to an automated packing line in the adjacent warehouse. Key features of this project include: a 75-foot tall slip formed concrete building; pneumatic product conveying throughout; fully enclosed drive-thru load-out; Extra Hazard I Fire Suppression System; semi-automatic load cell weigh bin system for truck loads; and air pollution control for PM-IO compliance.
