Fuel Facility Design

  • Marina Airport, Marina, California
Blymyer Engineers, Inc. was retained by Saxton Palma Construction to provide the conceptual layout and detailed engineering design services to upgrade the existing fueling facility. This facility consists of one 12,000-gallon Jet A AST, spill containment for loading/unloading fuel trucks, and the capability to load fuel trucks. Our scope of work included the fueling facility arrangement, detailed engineering design, and permitting.

Oakland Airport Signage

  • Oakland International Airport, Oakland, California
Blymyer Engineers, Inc. was retained by the general contractor to provide electrical plans and specifications as required to tie-in and distribute power to seven advertising aspects (signs) for Foster Interstate Media for the Oakland Airport. Our scope of work included designing the tie into the Port of Oakland’s electrical panels, specifying the appropriate breakers and underground power distribution to each of the aspects, terminating in a panel with power meter, with all breakers and time clock interlock installed. This project included the specifications for the test procedures in compliance with the Port’s and NETA standards.

Fuel Facility Design

Blymyer Engineers, Inc. was retained by the project architect to provide the conceptual layout and detailed engineering design for an addition to the existing fueling facility. The addition consists of one 12,000-gallon aboveground AVGAS tank, one-20,000 gallon Jet A aboveground storage tank, two twin-hose AVGAS dispensers, and two loading/off-loading control panels. The control panels were recommended by Blymyer Engineers, Inc. to provide safety and to prevent spills during the loading/off-loading process. Our scope of work included the fueling facility arrangement, detailed engineering design, obtaining equipment quotes, submittals, and site inspections during the life of the project.

This facility consists of the installation of one 100 gallon above ground motor oil tank, one 1,000-gallon above ground waste oil tank with an evacuation pump, one 280 gallon aboveground windshield washer fluid tank, 8-hose reel banks, compressed air system, bus maintenance pit, in-ground lifts, bus wash, and wheel alignment equipment. Our scope of work included the equipment arrangement, and detailed piping designs, and construction administration including periodic site inspections.

CNG

CNG System Installation

  • San Ramon, California
Blymyer Engineers, Inc. was retained to provide engineering services to retrofit an existing diesel fueling facility with a new compressed natural gas fast fill system. The new system utilizes a unique compression and storage system that replaced the final compressor stage with a high-volume hydraulic booster. The hydraulic booster reduces the loads placed on the compressor and lowers the gas storage pressure in the cascade. This was done to reduce the system maintenance requirements and improve the overall safety of the facility. Our scope of work included detailed process piping design, foundation design, permitting, and coordination.

Design New CNG Fueling Facility

Blymyer Engineers, Inc. was retained to provide detailed engineering design for a new, unattended fast-fill compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling facility near the Golden Gate Bridge. The facility utilized two fully automatic compressor systems to deliver high-pressure CNG to two card-lock controlled dispensers. The facility was intended for use by the park service to power their fleet of cars and light trucks in San Francisco. Our scope of work included the facility layout, detailed process piping design, civil engineering and electrical engineering.

Design Natural Gas Fuel Systems

Blymyer Engineers, Inc. was retained to provide design and engineering services for multiple alternative fueling projects throughout the west coast states. Among these projects are: A compressed natural gas (CNG) regulator station in Seattle wherein we prepared the mechanical engineering design. This system utilizes a complex multi-stage regulator system to deliver up to 300 CFM of natural gas into the pipeline from a high pressure tube trailer. A mobile liquefied natural gas (LNG) fueling trailer in Sacramento wherein we provided the mechanical design for a new system to refuel a new heavy-duty LNG truck fleet. The entire system was trailer-mounted for ease of use and mobility for future relocation. A high-volume natural gas facility in Oakland where we provided civil, structural, mechanical and electrical design for the entire project. The system was designed to simultaneously fill up to 12 high-pressure trailers and up to 6 vehicles. A 3,000 CFM compressor delivers CNG to the trailers and a 6,000 LNG system is used as a backup fueling system.

CNG Fueling System and Maintenance Shop Upgrade

Blymyer Engineers provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) design services for a new CNG fueling system and maintenance shop upgrade for a waste disposal company in Seattle, Washington. The CNG fueling system included three 250 hp compressors, two fast fill dispensers and fifty-five multi-hose time-fill posts. The maintenance shop upgrade included retrofit of eight existing bays with a new heating and ventilation system, gas detection system, and electrical modifications to facilitate servicing of CNG-powered vehicles. Blymyer Engineers also provided MEP design services for a two-bay maintenance shop addition, including a new vehicle wash bay and welding bay.

Alternative Fuel System Design

Blymyer Engineers was retained to provide engineering services to design a new compressed natural gas fast fill system. The new system utilizes two 110 scfm/75 HP compressors with a three bank cascade storage system and dryers. CNG will be dispensed by six duel hose time fill post and one dual hose fast fill dispenser. The fast fill dispenser is controlled by a card reader connected to a fuel management system. Blymyer Engineers’ scope of work included detailed engineering and foundation design, permitting, and coordination.

Alternative Fuel System Design

  • Santa Cruz, California
Blymyer Engineers was retained to provide engineering services for a new CNG system that incorporates 10 slow fill stations for Muni busses. The system employs a 150-scfm dual ANGI compressor and a Zebec Dryer. The Electrical design starts with taking primary power from a newly installed PG&E pole and delivering power to the pad mounted transformer, which then distributes it thru specified switchgear to the equipment. The design package consists of general arrangements, piping and electrical schematics and associated arrangements, structural drawings and written specifications in accordance with the City’s construction codes and standards.

The San Benito High School District employed Blymyer Engineers to design and build their CNG fueling facility to service school buses and other CNG-fueled vehicles operated by the District. The CNG system included time fill stations for overnight vehicle fueling and fast fill dispensers capable of servicing cars, trucks, and transit buses. Blymyer Engineers was responsible for complete design and installation of the system, including mechanical, structural and electrical aspects, attaining all necessary permits; purchasing main equipment components; and performing construction supervision and startup.

Fuel System Design

Blymyer Engineers was retained by Almar, Ltd. to provide design engineering services for a large marine fueling system consisting of two 20,000-gallon diesel underground storage tanks (USTs), one 10,000-gallon diesel UST, one 10,000-gallon gasoline UST, four dispensers, a tanker truck off-loading and filtering system, and over 600 feet of fuel piping located on-shore and on-dock. Blymyer Engineers’ scope of work included the conceptual design of the system, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and structural engineering. The associated piping is a combination of underground and aboveground piping and the tanks and piping trenches are all monitored double-walled construction. The quality of the fuel available required the incorporation of a 300-gpm off-loading and filtering system into the facility.

Blymyer Engineers provided mechanical, structural, and electrical design services, and construction phase services for a new fleet fueling system at the Santa Clara County Fleet Maintenance Facility in San Jose, California. The fueling system consists of two 12,000-gallon gasoline aboveground storage tanks (ASTs), two 12,000-gallon diesel ASTs, eight dispensers, bulk fuel off-loading pump systems, Stage I and Stage II vapor recovery systems (gasoline only) and leak detection and fuel management systems. The fueling system is used for fueling all fleet vehicles in operation by the County of Santa Clara. The diesel system also has a high-flow nozzle for filling a tanker trailer operated by the County.

Customer Service Building and QTA Facility Design

Blymyer Engineers, Inc. was retained by project architects to provide the detailed engineering design, project management, and construction inspection services for Interim Rental Car Facility at the Oakland International Airport. The project consists of a new customer service building (CSB), quick turn around (QTA) facilities, including aboveground tank farm, covered fueling area, carwashes and vacuum system, eight ready return lots, and paved parking areas and access roads. Our scope of work included structural design of all foundation, pads, ramps, stairs and awning for the CSB. Our scope of work for the QTA facilities included car wash trench drains and floor drains, concrete islands and pads at the fueling area, including floor drains; concrete pads for the tank farm area. Blymyer Engineers, Inc. prepared all design specifications including: MEP, fuel systems, and specialty equipment design for the new facility. Blymyer Engineers, Inc. also obtained equipment quotes, reviewed contractor quotes and submittals and performed site inspections during the life of the project.

Blymyer Engineers was retained by a national car rental agency to provide the engineering design and project management services for an existing facility. The project required Blymyer Engineers’ review of the existing UST information, setting system criteria with the client, upgrading four 20,000-gallon underground gasoline tanks and two underground motor oil tanks, installing new double-walled product piping, removing three tanks and installing a new aboveground tank for waste oil, solicit and obtain equipment quotes, review contractor submittals, and perform construction inspections throughout the life of the project.

Blymyer Engineers provided mechanical and electrical design services, and construction phase services for a new Consolidated Rental Car Quick Turnaround (QTA) facility at the Ft. Lauderdale -Hollywood International Airport in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The facility includes a common fueling system with a total of 150,000 gallons of underground gasoline storage and 63 twin-hose dispensers (126 fueling positions), and vacuum, windshield washer fluid, carpet cleaning fluid, and compressed air services at each fuel dispensing position. The facility also includes maintenance bays with lube oil and waste oil systems, vehicle lifts, and other equipment for preventative maintenance of rental vehicles.

The facility is split between the north and south sides of the airport with six separate QTA buildings. The facility includes three common fueling systems with a total of 250,000 gallons of underground gasoline storage and 105 twin-hose dispensers (210 fueling positions), 34 car wash bays, and vacuum, windshield washer fluid, and compressed air services at each fuel dispensing position.

The facility includes a common fueling system with a total of 36,000 gallons of underground gasoline storage in vaulted tanks and 12 dispensers on each of Levels 2 through 4 of the QTA building, 12 car wash bays, 9 maintenance bays with lube oil and waste oil services, and vacuum, windshield washer fluid, and compressed air services at each fuel dispensing position. Special design considerations were required for pumping fuel to multiple stories inside the QTA building.
