San Bernardino International Airport Solar Study

  • San Bernardino, CA
Blymyer Engineers, Inc. evaluated the feasibility of installing large-scale photovoltaic (PV) systems during the conversion of the former Norton Air Force Base to civilian use as a commercial airport. The 1,500-acre site and associated electrical services were evaluated for ground-, canopy- and roof-mounted PV systems. Also considered were the large areas of current and future construction, as well as the new site usage. Twenty utility meters on the site were evaluated for their current and projected electricity usage, billing rates, and locations relative to suitable PV sites. Recommendations were made for sizing and placement of PV systems at the site based on this physical and economic analysis.
