(Alameda, CA) Blymyer Engineers, the nation’s leading design firm for utility scale solar projects, announced today the company has been selected as the exclusive engineering firm for the 45 MW AC Sandstone solar project in Florence Arizona. Swinerton Builders, EPC for the project, chose Blymyer Engineers to provide engineering for Sandstone, which is owned by renewable energy IPP SPower. The power generated from the facility will benefit the Salt River Project (SRP), the third largest public power utility in the nation, providing power for over one million customers.
Greg Mazur, Director of Engineering for Blymyer Engineers, notes, “This project is key to Arizona’s energy plans as it supplies a source of clean, renewable energy for the state. Blymyer Engineers is proud to have been asked to provide complete engineering support during the construction phase. Specifically we’ve prepared arrangements, drawings, energy modelling, the electrical design, including the electrical site plan, single line diagrams, trench layouts, detail design of grounding design, the electrical equipment selection and structural design.”
The Sandstone solar farm is expected to begin delivering power by the end of 2015 under a 21 year PPA between SPower and SRP. The project is utilizing 182,000 Jinko JKM315P-72 Solar PV modules, Advanced Energy 100NX inverters and ATI v3 single axis trackers which follow the sun.
According to Representative Frank Pratt (AZ), Chairman of the House Energy Committee, “Arizona needs an energy portfolio that is diverse and renewable. That’s why the Sandstone solar project is so important. It will help SRP expand its energy portfolio with additional reliable, affordable clean energy.”
