Red Horse 2 solar/wind project featured in enerG Magazine

The November / December 2015 issue of enerG Magazine explores the Red Horse 2 project in Arizona, a combined solar/wind effort that Blymyer Engineers was proud to take part in over the past year.

We were selected by Swinerton Renewable Energy as the engineering firm of record for the solar portion of the 71 MW project. While there are a few other such solar/wind projects in the U.S., Red Horse 2 was unique in that the solar and wind transmission lines go to a common substation and common BUS and main power transformer.

The article details the development and construction challenges posed by the hybrid project, as well as the approaches that led to its success. “We developed multiple energy models for the site, looked at various layout options and different technologies,” says Blymyer Engineers President Michael Rantz. “The larger the project, the more critical your decisions can be in terms of cost savings — we want to help deliver the best financial model for the developer.”
