(Huron, California, May 5, 2014) Blymyer Engineers is pleased to announce its participation in the completed and fully active Westlands Solar Farms Project located in Huron, California. This $60 million renewable energy project was internally financed to meet very aggressive deadlines, which were met in mid February of 2014. Swinerton built the PV array including a new substation, on 85 acres adjacent to the Interstate 5 freeway. The project is under contract from Clenera. Blymyer Engineers supplied comprehensive structural engineering, electrical engineering and detailed design on the project.
Michael Rantz, Blymyer Engineers’ President and CEO, relates the details of the project, “The Westlands facility includes more than 77,000 PV modules with a power rating of 300 W. which are mounted on single axis tracking systems. This system supplies 23,112 kWp of DC power to 18 Advanced Energy AE1000NX (800 VAC) inverters. The system utilizes Array Technology DuraTrack HZ tracker rows, oriented at 0 degrees, spaced to achieve a 0.49 east-west ground cover ratio.”
The plant is connected by a half mile long generation tie and transmission line from the substation to a new 70 kv switchyard. Power is being produced and sold under a PPA with Pacific Gas and Electric. The project involved several stakeholders including developer Westlands Solar Farms LLC, Swinerton Builders, Dashiell Corporation and Blymyer Engineers.
