Blymyer engineers our largest photovoltaic project at 700MW

Solar is the fastest-growing sector of the energy industry, and Blymyer Engineers continues to grow and innovate to meet the challenges of advancing utility-scale solar worldwide. This year, Blymyer has provided design and engineering services for a new 700MW utility-scale solar project, the firm’s largest to date and one of the top photovoltaic (PV) projects in the country.
We engineered our first solar project (distributed-generation) in 2003, followed by our first utility-scale project in 2008. Since then, Blymyer has engineered hundreds of plants, totaling over 25GW in engineered solar. Our utility-scale solar projects have seen remarkable growth in capacity and efficiency: in 2010, the average capacity of our photovoltaics ranged from 20MW–100MW. In 2025, these PV projects taking up the same footprint range in size from 200MW–500MW, a 2000% increase in capacity.
“As the capacity for utility-scale solar has grown, Blymyer has grown in parallel,” says Blymyer President Mike Rantz. “We’ve played a pivotal role in the expansion of utility-scale solar for nearly two decades, all while building strong, longstanding relationships with EPCs, developers, and commercial and industrial clients. We are supporting the largest EPCs in the nation to develop and expand renewable energy infrastructure through these partnerships.”
Blymyer Director of Engineering Greg Mazur adds, “As our projects have expanded, so has our team: we’ve doubled in size from 40 to 80 engineers just in the last two years.” Blymyer’s multidisciplinary firm includes electrical, mechanical, structural, environmental, and civil engineers versed in all aspects of renewable energy engineering. “We have the expertise and experience for a photovoltaic project of this scale. At 700MW, this project is among the largest utility solar projects in the country right now,” continues Mazur.
The solar industry has seen exponential growth in the United States, with more than 255GW of solar capacity installed across the nation. Out of 10,000 companies responsible for solar deployment in the U.S., Blymyer’s current portfolio represents a substantial portion of the nation’s total installed solar capacity. As the landscape of utility-scale photovoltaics evolves, Blymyer is committed to staying at the forefront of a rapidly changing and growing industry.
