Driving Fuel System Design at Blymyer Engineers
With fuel system design, the Blymyer Engineers team must keep on top of rapidly evolving standards for safety and efficiency for conventional gas, diesel, compressed natural gas (CNG), liquefied natural gas (LNG), and more. Plus, the nationwide reach of our fuel system design services means we need to know state-specific codes and standards for all 50 states, county and city specific codes and local AHDs jurisdiction.
A Blymyer team member since 1990, Bjorn Enstrom leads many of our industrial design projects. “Blymyer is an industry leader in the design of fueling and vehicle maintenance facilities for train stations and fleets of buses, cars, boats, planes, trucks, and airport rental cars,” he says. “We’ve worked on quick turnaround fueling projects at more than half of the busiest airports in the United States, and we designed the first multi-story fueling system for a consolidated rental car facility in the US.”
More than 300 fleet projects completed
What’s a typical fuel system design project? No two projects are exactly alike. The Blymyer team begins each project by working to understand the client’s needs and goals. We seek to design fueling facilities that support safe, fast, efficient use, and also address any site-specific constraints. Then, the team engineers the project to meet all relevant fire, building, and underground construction codes. During construction, we often work closely with the contractors to coordinate projects.
A bus maintenance and fueling facility in Florida called for design along with permitting assistance, submittal review, and construction inspections. For a nationwide client, Blymyer provided detailed design and construction management for CNG facilities located across the country. The team even delivered a fueling system design for use at the Hamad International Airport in Qatar.
“At Blymyer, we’ve completed more than 300 fuel system design and fleet maintenance facility projects,” says Enstrom. “Projects vary by facility type and industry, and our experience helps us deliver the efficiency, safety, and compliance that clients need.”
