Kiowa County Solar Project increases Oklahoma’s solar energy capacity

Developed and currently operating under Savion ownership, Kiowa County Solar Project in Southwest Oklahoma is now fully operational, adding 100MW solar capacity to the state’s energy resources—enough to power approximately 21,000 Oklahoma homes annually over the next 40 years. The facility, which sits on 1,235 acres adjacent to the town of Snyder, Oklahoma, includes more than 189,000 bifacial solar panels.

Blymyer engineered the facility, in partnership with EPC SOLV Energy. Construction began in August 2023, and the project was completed in December 2024.

A significant boost to Oklahoma solar production

“Oklahoma currently ranks 40th in the nation in solar capacity, so this project is a major step forward for the photovoltaic industry in the state,” says Chris Gleason, Blymyer, Director of Utility Scale Projects. “The Kiowa County initiative also marks another of our successful collaborations with SOLV Energy, one of the country’s leading renewable energy EPCs —a company with whom we’ve had a longstanding partnership.”

“We were an ideal choice for this project, given our extensive experience in the design and engineering of solar facilities,” Gleason continues. “Our firm has one of the most extensive solar portfolios in the industry, having engineered over 15% of the total solar capacity in the U.S.”

Blymyer offers electrical, mechanical, structural, and civil engineering services for both utility-scale and distributed-generation solar systems. From energy analysis and modeling through commissioning, we ensure end-to-end quality at every stage of the process, and our optimized designs include a deep understanding of energy economics, including upfront and long-term costs.

“This new photovoltaic facility in Oklahoma is an important milestone for the state,” Gleason adds. “With solar being one of the most cost-efficient sources of energy, we hope to see more initiatives like this one in the near future.
